Privacy Policy

Effective September 8, 2026

ScanMyJunk (“we,” “us”) helps you photograph second-hand items, get an AI resale-price estimate, and organize them into collections. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

Information you provide

• Account: your email address and a securely hashed password. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive the email address Apple gives us — if you choose Apple’s Private Relay, that is a relay address and we never see your real one.
• Photos & items: pictures you take or upload of your items, and the details we derive from them (name, category, condition, estimated price).
• Profile: an optional display name and profile photo.

How your photos are used

When you scan an item, the photo is sent to our appraisal service to identify it and estimate a resale price. Price estimates are AI-generated approximations for your convenience — they are not offers, guarantees, or professional valuations.

Using the app without an account

You can use ScanMyJunk without an account. As a guest, your scans and collections are stored only on your device and are never sent to our servers for syncing — which also means they are gone if you delete the app. Creating an account later keeps them across devices.

How we use information

We use your information to provide the app: to appraise items, run your account, sync your collections if you sign in, and keep the service secure. We do not sell your personal information.

Service providers

• Email: we use an email provider to send verification and password-reset emails.
• Appraisal: we use an AI/vision service to process the photos you scan.
• Comparable prices: we query a third-party marketplace for the prices of similar items. Those listings are shown live while you are looking at a result and are not stored with your item.
• Subscriptions: we use a subscription analytics service to record when a subscription starts, renews, or ends, so we can see how the app is doing. It receives the transaction record — what was bought and when — never your payment details, which only Apple ever sees.
They handle your data only to provide these functions. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect users.

How we measure the app

We collect a small amount of anonymous usage and diagnostic data so we can see where the app is confusing or broken:
• Which step of the first-run flow you reached, tagged with a random identifier created fresh when the app is installed. It is not your account, not your device id, and it does not survive deleting the app — it exists only so we can count people rather than taps.
• Crash and error reports: what failed, the app version, and the iOS version.
None of this is linked to your identity, none of it is used for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Notifications

If you allow them, we may send you a reminder shortly before a free trial ends so a charge doesn’t surprise you. You can turn notifications off at any time in iOS Settings.

Retention & deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile and collections from our servers. Some records may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten.

Security

Passwords are salted and hashed, and traffic is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.

Your choices

You can edit your profile and delete your account at any time. You may also contact us to request a copy or deletion of your data.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the effective date above.
